Meet Information

Many of you are new to gymnastics and may be confused as you learn new vocabulary and navigate your daughter or son through their first competition season.  Hopefully this survival guide will assist you, however please feel free to ask any of us “old-time” parents if you have any questions.

Meet Sessions

Gymnastic meets are usually scheduled for two days, although most boys meets are one day. Each day is divided into sessions--generally there are 3 session per day.  The times for the sessions varies from meet to meet and are established by the host gym. Your gymnast will be assigned a session based on their level.  These session time are generally released by the host gym approximately one week prior to the meet. We recognize that this is not a lot of time to plan, however the information will be sent to you via e-mail as soon as it is received from the host gym.

Check-In

Always plan to arrive at the meet 30 minutes prior to warm-up. This will give you time to check-in your gymnast and get them settled. Each gymnast is assigned a number which they will receive upon checkin.  The number is written on their hand and is used for tracking their scores during the event.

Meet Attire

Girls team members are required to wear their competition leo and warm-up to every meet. They must also have their hair fastened securely from their face.  French braids work well but a simple pony tail works great too. They are not allowed to wear any make-up or nail polish and are only allowed to wear small studded ear-rings.

Boys team members are required to wear their competition uniform and warm-up to each competition. For both girls and boys teams temporary tattoos are prohibited.

Ribbons

Gymnasts will receive achievement ribbons after they complete each event.  The color of the ribbon corresponds to the score they received for that particular event.  The breakdown is as follows:

Blue Ribbon: 9.000 & above

Red Ribbon: 8.000 - 8.975

White Ribbon: 7.500 - 7.975

Yellow Ribbon: 7.000 - 7.475

Green Ribbon: 6.975 & below

Awards

Award presentations are conducted at the end of each session. Gymnasts receive awards for each event and for all-around. These are based on the scores receive during the competition. All gymnasts are required to stay until the awards presentation is completed.

Gymnastics 101: Qualifying Scores for Sectionals and States

Through out the season the term “Sectional” will be used often. Sectionals only apply to girls gymnastics for levels 4 and 5. Girls must qualify for sectional meets at an invitational meet, such as the Turkey Tumble. At the Sectional meet gymnasts compete in order to receive scores to qualify them to compete at the state meet held at the end of the season. Levels 6 and above qualify for their state meets at an invitational.  Below is a break-down of qualifying scores per level:

Level 4 & 5 must score a 31.5 or better at an invitational to qualify for a sectional and score a 33 or better at a sectional to qualify for the state meet

Level 6 must score a 32.5 or better at an invitational to qualify for the state meet

Level 7 must score a 34 or better at an invitational to qualify for the state meet

Level 8 must score a 33 or better at an invitational to qualify for the state meet

Levels 9 & 10 must score a 32 or better at an invitational to qualify the for state meet
